CNC mill is a specific form of computer numerical controlled (CNC) machining. Milling itself is a machining process similar to both drilling and cutting, and able to achieve many of the operations performed by cutting and drilling machines. Like drilling, Milling uses a rotating cylindrical cutting tool.
BRAKE BRACKET
Step 3
I needed to create another sketch on the top view of the part. This is the second 2D sketch on the part. |
Step 4
After the sketch was done I extruded it to the correct amount and this is the last step to creating the part. |
Step 7
After a bunch of setting of how much material the bit should take away and how fast it should go this is a computer generated video. This video shows all of the passes the mill will take when cutting out the bracket. |
Step 8
I then uploaded my file onto a flash drive and plunged it into the computer next to the mill. I used the controller to move the bit to position the bit in the right spot on the material for it to start. |
Step 9
Pressed start and this milling process took about 20 minutes.

FINAL PRODUCT
After the mill was done cutting out the bracket I then laser engraved my into the piece. This is my final Brake Bracket.

The Mill by far is the coolest machine to use in the innovation center. I love watching it mover material to create a part. I can't wait to use the machine again. I learn quite a bit from using it as well. Was a another fun project.
