Our task in this project was to create isometric sketches of small objects called Widgets. Then we needed to create each widget in the Inventor software. This software allows anyone to create any 2D sketch to your liking. You can use many different tools to create you object. After that is complete the object can be extruded to any size into a 3D object that can be printed using a 3D printer. Below is step by step procedure of the widgets project using inventor and then printing my 3D widget.
WIDGETS
Step 1
Start a 2D sketch and select the horizontal plane that is labeled XZ plane Step 3
Select the dimension tool and then dimension the right side view of widget number 6 and then push finish sketch. Step 5
After the face is extruded and is now a 3d object, start a new 2D sketch on the top view of the wedget. Step 7
Select the dimension tool and dimension the sketch on the top view to the correct measurements shown below. Step 9
Again press extrude and then select the two rectangles and square. Like before select the subtraction button and now this time subtracted 1 inch. |
Step 2
Click on the line tool in the top left. After the line tool is selected create a rough draft of what the right side view of the widget looks like. Step 4
Now, click on the extrude option and select the face of wedget. After the face is selected extrude to 1 inch. Step 6
Again select the line tool and create the what need to be cut out of the wedget for it to be complete. Demonstrated below. Step 8
After the top view is properly dimensioned on click on extrude and select the rectangle that is on top of the sketch. Now, press on the subtraction button which is second from top and extrude 0.75 inches down. Final Widget

MAKERBOT
PRINTING PROCESS
FINAL PRODUCT
This project was a fun activity to get to use inventor again and allow me to learn a new software called makerbot. This software is the final step of getting a 3D object printed. It allows you to add a inventor file onto your screen and scale it to the size you want it to be printed in. After a couple of easy steps your 3D object is ready to be put on a flash drive. I am glad use and learn how to use makerbot so now in the future I can print almost anything with the knowledge I have obtained.
